I have a rock like this that is a breccia which is a rock type made of lots of little rocks cemented together with something else.

Your specimen looks different though. The very dark parts look like crystals to me. Are they reddish? Looks like it could be garnet but I can't tell just from the photo. Garnet is very hard and usually reddish or purple.
